I am looking at purchasing a metal roof, however, the vocabulary is out of my league.
I understaand that with "standing Seam I will not be able to see any attachments, but what does "mechanically seamed" mean?

Standing seam comes in two general varieties...
1) "Snap lock" panels that are formed in a way that, when put on the roof, they just snap together and hold in place.
2) Mechanically seamed panels are those which actually have a seamer or crimping device run down the length of each seam to fold them metal into a closure and ensure the integrity of the roof.
Mechanically seamed systems are suitable for lower pitched roofs in particular.
