I am going to put up McElroy Maxirib-Ultra over my existing roof. It is in good shape, but I had problem with ice dams. I would like to criss cross purlins underneath the metal to provide good ventilation from eave to ridge. Do you see any problems with this? Also the bees around here were bad last year and I'm worried about them getting under the roof and digging in!!?? The roof is bronze color and a friend says it will get too hot under there for the bees. What do you think?

Dave, I am pleased to tell you that McElroy Metal is a member of the Metal Roofing Alliance. I would, therefore, suggest that you email your questions direct to them at [email protected] That said, the installation system you're proposing sounds reasonable to me though I am not familiar with the technical specifications of the Maxirib-Ultra product. As far as the bees, both your ridge and eave ventilation should have some sort of screen or mesh which prevents intrusion by insects, snow, blowing rain, etc. Todd Miller
