I'm preparing to install a metal roof on my home. It already has a tin shingle roof. Is there any reason why I shouldn't Install the new roof on top of the existing roof?

I do get concerned about differences in expansion and contraction. However, if your new roof can be installed over battens, putting battens over the existing metal shingles may work. I would suggest choosing your new metal roof and then working with its manufacturer to figure out proper install procedures.

Thanks for your response. My concern, however, is that the metal that i've purchased is rather thin. I don't know the exact guage, but it seems to me that the battens would create alot of weak spots. Am i mistaken?
