We have an old barn with a good standing seam metal roof on it. It has some small pinholes in it that are from some idiot with buck shot and from nails that were used to hold down the roof in high winds.
Because the roof is huge, basically in good shape, and on a barn I just want to patch the holes so they won't leak anymore.
Any suggestions. I was hoping to find something smooth, easy, and durable that won't show up to much when I repaint the roof silver this spring.
I was wondering about furnace cement?
Also, I may want to put some new nails in to provide a little more strength so I don't have to hear the roof so much in high winds. I can't get into the seams because it is already installed. Is there a nail/rubber washer system that will provide a reasonablt result.
Remember we're just talking about an old barn . . .

A good building supply company should have quality painted galvanized screws with cap heads and neoprene washers below them. These are used for the application of corrugated metal roofing.
As far as filling the holes, provided they are pretty small, I would probably use a top quality butyl rubber caulk sealant. Make sure that the surface is clean and dry before applying.
