We are using standing seam metal roofing on a split pitch roof and we are having a problem with the panels not lining up above and below the pitch change flashing. We install the lower portion and the flashing, then the upper portion keeps growing in width and is off an inch in 16-20 feet. If we try to force the sheets tighter together, they will bulge in the middle. When we measure sections of roof, we get different measurements from section to section and from top to bottom. We are not pushing or pulling the sheets. The manufacturer says it is an installation problem. I can not see how that is possible. I believe it is a worn out machine or improperly adjusted. Please give me some input.

Depends on the type of standing seam. If you can post a photo and/or manufacturer's technical details that would be helpful.
There are some types of standing seam that have widths that could be affected by the way you install it (especially those that are mechanically seamed or have wide ribs).
With other types of standing seam it would be hard to adjust the width of the panels even if you wanted to.
It is also possible that it is a machine problem, but its hard to know.
