We have just purchased a beach home in the Charleston, SC area with a failing 5 V roof. The home is a post and beam construction with slats supporting the roof over the insulation billets. The slats were originally installed for ventilation, however, our roofer feels that they need to be replaced with plywood or reduce the spacing of the slats since the original nailing points were too far apart. Also, is there a preference for 5V or standing seam for this type of application.

I would put plywood down.
And have some good ventilation.
As far as 5V or standing seam ... no real preference one over the other ... both have their attributes.
