Friends: My wife and I recently purchased an historic house with metal roofing. The previous owner repainted the house with an oil-based paint last summer before we bought the house, and now the paint is flaking like crazy. How can we repair this?
Do we need to remove all of the existing paint? And how is this best done?
What type of paint should we now use?
Who is SE Tennessee does this type work?
Thank you.

Assuming that you have an old metal roof as well, it is possible that the existing surface was not prepared properly and/or that a non compatiple paint was used.
Unfortunately in this situation you need a local painting expert to have a look at the cocktail of finishes that are there in order to recommend a proper refinishing.
Try the local historical society as one source to see if they have anybody on their list. Next try to identify a ccommercial paint supply store and ask for a qualified contractor referance through them.
If you have no luck there try contacting the local construction/building association and get a list of members. Hope this helps.

Please help!
I have a dark brown metal roof that has oxidized quite a bit. How does one get rid this? Pressure washing may be with TSP? What do you suggest?

I would be curious to know how old your roof is. The new high quality coatings resist oxidatition very well however I would guess that you may have a lower quality paint system and browns where brows oxidize fast.
Washing helps as will TSP however you are going to need something that is a little caustic if you want to cut through it however this is not the best for the environment and one needs to be careful with the wash water as it runs off the roof as it could streak and stain the siding.
If the roof is not too hard to get at then I have seen some excelant results with a garden hose applicator and touchless car wash soaps where you just flood the cleaner on and rinse it off and it is great for the windows and siding. While it does not take it all at once, an annual rinsing will return its glory.
A great product is "hose it clean" that comes with its own applicator. Try www.transchem.com
