I have a question regarding an insulated metal roof assembly. Is there a maximum thickness for the rigid insulation that you can use when there is a bearing plate/ clip system? I have seen details of the system but it never mentions a thickness. One worry I have is when you get into a thicker assembly (5" plus), what stresses the fasteners are subjected to during the roof panels daily cycles of expansion and contraction and if there is a failure potential because of the distance to a solid fixing point.
Another question is what is the recommended maximum pitch for a bearing plate/ clip system.
I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance for your assistance.

My friend just recently did a large hip roof job on a military project and he told me they installed "zip rib" over 5". Not sure of the typed of rigid they installed but I remember him telling me they ice/water shielded the whole roof.
