I'm Putting a metal roof put on my pool house, it will have two enclosed rooms 16x8 one on each side of a 16x16 covered area with one end open. The trusses are on 24" centers and there is 5/16 plywood decking over them with felt. The rooms will not be heated and cooled. My question is should I put down 1x4 stripping down over the felt before I install the metal roof ? I plan on having suffit vents and a ridge vent. Thank You

As long as you have good ventilation, the roof installation will be dictated by the product you choose. Many metal roofs are designed to go over decking while others are designed to go over battens (lathe) and some roofs can be used on either.
I suggest using this website to find some products you like and then inquiring with their manufacturers regarding installation details.

I am replacing part of the roof of an historic adobe home in SW Texas with corrugated metal roofing which I am trying to match to the existing roof. I have a number of questions. The existing roof that is still in good shape is strongbarn brand that I believe may no longer be made. It is 24 gauge with a 1.25 oz. zinc coating, and measures 2.66 inches ridge to ridge (as opposed to the more standard 2.5) and the corrugations measure .39 inches tall. The top of the panels say they were made in Japan. Are these still manufactured? I'm having difficulty even finding corrugated panels that are 24 gauge. Secondly, the roof I will replace is currently layed right over the rafters. Should I do the same or put down decking or some kind of vapor barrier? Also, I'm quite curious to know how long corrugated metal panels have been available. Is there any written history of this type of roofing? Many thanks for any information you can provide!

Corrigated metal panels were one of the earliest metal roofing mechanically formed in North America as it was the easiest. If you are not into a lot of panels and you wanted to have the panels match exactly, then approach a sheet metal shop that has one of the new programable metal brakes and they should be able to form it out of 24 ga for you. Also try the Wheeling Corrigated company that may have been sold to ISG however they are one of the oldest still prodcing corrigated.
As to installing over the open rafter, this is a complicated question. The original portion was probably designed around to to breathe and ventilate. The new code calls for an underlayment and a 1" minimum vented 1"air space which I would recommend be followed as it will reduce heat transfer.

Hi David,
First of all ... first things first ... are you certain that the manufacturer of the roofing you are installing approves of it being installed over spaced boards for residential applications? The higher quality manufacturers I know are no longer recommending that sort of application but are instead calling for installations direct over solid decking with appropriate underlayment.
Aside from that, tell us a bit more about the overall home construction. Will it be "traditional" with drywall, vapor barrier, insulation, vented attic space, and roof system or do you have something else going on?
