We are getting ready to install a metal roof over the top of 3-tab asphalt shingles. The contractor is going to attach 1x2's to our existing roof and shingles and attach the metal to the 1x2's. A friend has expressed a concern over condensation. Do I need to be concerned? I've asked the contractor and of course, he says "no". Thanks.

Always make sure the roof is being installed the way the manufacturer says it should be.
What's being done is probably okay but always verify ... and see if this is an opportune time to add attic ventilation.

INSTEAD OF USING 1x2s, I LIKE TO USE A PRODUCT CALLED RETRO VENT. IT'S ABOUT 3" WIDE x 50' LONG. IT'S MADE OUT OF METAL AND LOOKS LIKE WWWWWWWWW. IT ALLOWS A SPACE BETWEEN YOUR DECK AND METAL JUST LIKE THE WOOD. I LIKE IT ALOT BETTER THAN USING WOOD, IF YOU GET CONDENSATION UNDER YOUR METAL, YOUR WOOD WAY WARP. OPPS, NOW YOU HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM.
