I am laying a panel fastened standing seam roof over 5/8 plywood decking on a house. The pancake head screws are an inch long, so they protude through the roof deck by about 1/8". The roof is vented from soffit to ridge through out the house. Is it Ok for the roof screws to go through the roof decking and be exposed to the attic?

Brian, That should be fine. Most pancake head screws are zinc coated, so that will protect them. This is a common occurance. It is far better for them to stick out a little than not to have enough penetration into the wood.

I imagine the question about screws penetrating into the attic might concern not so much the effect on the screw but on the metal tip being a cold point for moisture condensation. Is that a problem?
