I have a question about insulation under a metal roof. The roof we are installing is aluzinc, painted white. We bought a bubble type of insulation. One side has a reflective foil layer on it. Does that side go up towards the metal or down towards the ceiling?

I stated wrong on the first post. The reflective side goes down against the deck. I recently met with the president of the company that manufacturers Polarium. The white side of this product has needle punctures that act as a dead air space therefore insulating the heat from the radiant barrier side(reflective).
I hope I haven't messed too many people up with my inaccurate statement. At least my crew has always put it on right.

Is this polarium barrier really worth the money? In Midland, Tx it gets really hot and need to do something about the attic heat. Also my roof is fixing to be replaced and I felt this would be an easy way to cover all the house.

Installed the Polarlium Barrier under the shingles in 6/09, and the significant change in electric bill and comfort of home was worth the extra money. I live in Midland TX.

polaralum goes down right over the decking on a new installation. on a roof replacement, you can put it down over the old felt providing the old felt is still good and no nails sticking up.

Hi! I'm having Polaralum installed under a new roof the week of Thanksgiving. Your roof is too new to have weathered a winter, but I'm curious as to how the underlayment affects heatiing. I'm anxious to see how much cooler my attic is after the installation.

I live in Midland too.
Just got the polarium put on last week when the roof was replaced. My shiny side is down.
Anything that keeps the attic cooler in the summer is good. I'll be keeping an eye out for improvement.
Now I need some better air flow and I'll be all set.

Wonder if we can claim it on our taxes.

I am about to have my roof replaced and the quote I received from a reputable installer says that I CAN claim the same 30% for the barrier as for the metal roof itself if I choose to have one put down.
