My son is planning to install a metal roof on his home. A roofing contractor told him they would not need to remove the old wood shake shingles, that have a lot of mildew.He said the shingles would dry out and not be a problem. What is your suggestion.

That can be done with some metal roofs. A quality underlayment should be placed over the shakes. Go back and inquire with the roofing manufacturer as to whether this is feasible with their product. Todd Miller
