We are looking at buying a house. The last bidder withdrew because the inspection turned up that the last owners put composite shingles over wood shake and the bidder was told he wouldn't be able to get insurance on this. Is this something that is normally done? Is there any problem with putting composite shingles over wood shake?
Thank you!

This question really isn't about metal roofing. However, this practice is not uncommon though it can void the warranty of the composition shingles and that may be the insurer's concern.
