A friend of mine is thinking of putting a metal roof on his house and ask me if it could be installed over the existing asbestos shingles. What are the pros and cons?

I am going to assume you mean asphalt shingles not asbestos. With many metal roofs, this is done regularly and poses no issues at all. Check with the roofing manufacturer for details. Make sure the existing roof is sound. Also, check local code requirements. Todd Miller
