Recently had a new roof installed. A new power roof vent was installed to replace a previous one.
Living in the hot, humid summer climate of the south, what would be an fairly good setting for the thermostat on the power vent?

Ace, that is really up to you. Also it is a matter of your ventilation. I mean, in a perfect world, your attic temp will be the same as the outside ambient temp. However, you may not have neough vents to move enough air to make that happen. I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

I have 3 gable vents, a good size intake vent near the kitchen in addition to this big powered vent. This is an attic where you can walk around with no problem.
FYI: After installation the powered vent was set around 90 -95 degrees and was running practically all the time. I don’t know if the roofers set it or if that’s how it came out of the box as I would NOT hire those roofers again. They did NOT impress me at all.
I heard somewhere it should be set to around 100 - 105 degrees. So I set it to 100 degrees (still runs a heck of a lot). I wanted to hear what the PROS had to say about this setting.
P.S. Upon checking a response to my original post, I just realized this forum is for METAL roofs. I don't have a metal roof so I apologize for posting to the wrong forum.
Thanks again for your reply.

Actually, my company sells a lot of roofing into southern Louisiana and I have been in on a lot of those jobs. If you choose the right metal roof and use good ventilation, you can keep the attic close to ambient even without power fans.

I have a two story log home in Texas and I have a "Great room" with totally open valted ceilings, except over the upstairs bedrooms to the Northern and Southern most sides of the house. Above these rooms I have a small amount of attic space, but those rooms are always 10-15 degrees hotter/colder than the rest of the house and my AC seems to be running constantly during the summer months.
I just have Efficient Attic Systems out to look at it and because it is such a small space, they suggested I try and do something other than use them...just because it wouldnt be cost effective to me. They suggested powered vent fans and just some more DIY roll in insullation.
Do you think this would help? Where do I get these fans for my exsisting vents? Any other ideas would be helpfull.
Thanks,
Heath

I am in Central Texas, building a 3000 sf home on the lake. It has a hip roof with almost no ridge, is 2-story...50x50, and has exposed rafter tails, so no soffits. I have been researching what kind of ventilation will be best and have finally decided that I may have to have a power ventilator for an exaust and POSSIBLY 'DRIP EDGE VENTS' FOR THE INTAKE. What do you think? I will also be using a whole house fan so I need to make sure there is enough exaust. Do any of these ventilators have a good guarantee on them?
