We currently have an 80 year old Craftsman bungalow that is needing a new metal roof. The old roof has wood-shake shingles with metal roofing on top.
We have plans to remove the old shingles when we replace the roof.
Do we need to have decking under the metal roof?
The roofer says not to use it because it could cause condensation under the metal, but the idea of only one layer of metal covering our home does make me a bit weary. What do you think?

I would suggest that you should have decking and underlayment before the roofing. Some products do not require decking but you'd better have a good vapor barrier as well as attic insulation and ventilation if they are to work well.
