I am currently looking into buying a home built in the mid 1950's. The homes roof is old. In some spots it has moss build up. The current owner has recieved a quote for a steel roof. The company possibly doing the install wants to put the steel right over the older asbestos tiles. My concern is moisture damage or rot showing up later in a few years. As well as health issues. Is this a normal pratice, installing steel roofing right over asbestos shingles?

This is a standard practice as it encapsulates the asbestos. The are not to drill the asbestos or anything that makes dust. Our company recommends that the existing roof be cleaned first and an anti funguside be applied. Sometimes a household bleach will work after it has been cleaned.
