Hi,
I have an 1894 historic farm house with a metal roof. The roof is not in terrible shape, but one area leaks and i've used that silver emultion paint until I'm blue in the face and it still leaks.
I don't know where the leak is, so can I just buy some metal roofing and place it over top the old metal roof by nailing it in place? I'm tempted to do this to the entire house if that works.
I also have two barns with similar problems. I don't want to remove the old metal roofs if I don't have to, but I want to do it the right way, most importantly.
Also, I want it to look right when I get done and I'm worried that the metal over metal might not look good from curb appeal issue.
Thanks in advance.

Surely it has not leaked from day one. I would do a water test on the area by starting at the bottom with a water hose pointing down the roof. Move it back and forth slowly and then slowly inch you way up the roof. The slower the better. Have someone watch for the leak. This will work most of the time. If you have no luck then move over and do it again as water can run sideways.
