Building a carport/leanto with OSB roof sheating. The space below will be open to the elements because it will not be enclosed. Want to metal roof over the OSB. Do I need to "raise" the metal roof off the OSB and where and what type of vapor barrier is needed? The carport is being attached directly under an existing 2' overhang on my current garage.
I live in northern Michigan and a rompt response would be appreciated since the snow is about to fly.
thank you

Some carports are low pitch. If that is the case with yours, you need to be sure to choose a metal roof that is suitable for your roof pitch.
An underlayment should be used on top of the OSB. This will protect the OSB from any condensation which might form under the metal roofing. Because this is an open situation, though, condensation should be minimal I believe.
As far as whether to install a vented space under the roofing, that is up to you and what type of roofing product you choose. I really think you need to bring that question up to the manufacturer of the roofing you select. Most products are designed for good performance when installed directly over decking though.
