Putting on a 5V panel roof, but notice that other metal roofs in the area have the ribs notched into the ridge flashing. Do you buy ridge caps pre-notched of is that done in the field?

Many ridge caps will be continuous and then either use foam closures, a ridge vent system, or flashing to block the ends of the panels. Check with your roofing manufacturer for info on how your roof system was designed to work.
