I am in the process of getting some bids for a house I am building. Two of the bids I have received are for fairly comparible products but I wanted to get your take. The first roof is a 16" panel with an 1 1/2" standing seam that uses clips to fasten as well as a crimp seam. The product is rated a cool roof with Kynar paint. The other roof is a 12" panel with a 1" standing snap seam. It uses either a smp or something like that kind of paint. The differance is about three thousand dollars more for the first product. The question is is that worth the money based on the differance in the product? I appreciate any insight.

Both ere good paints however the Kynar (if Kynar 500) is better and is generally about 8-10% more on material cost. The refective paint adds a little more cost.

Allan,
Thanks for you message, I was pretty sure Kynar was the better option, but now am a little more perplexed about the bennefits between the 16" 1 1/2 standing seam that is crimped vs. the 12" snap lock system. Let me know if you feel one is beter then the other.
Thanks,
Tim

Ask to see the product approval on both and compare. Typically the seamed roof has a higher water resistance and is better at lower slopes. Then there is the look that you are after as long runs of narrow are not as balanced as the wider material and visa versa when it is short runs and a cut up with lots of detail.
