In residentail roofing, does a 24 guage metal necessarly produce a better result with respects to oil canning than say a 26 guage? Some manufactuers preach steel hardness; others thickness. What's really important in selecting a paneled metal roof?

The performance of a metal roof system is based as much on design as material thickness. In Florida you need to be concerned over wind. Ask to see their product approval which will indicate that it has been tested, the application methods and the wind resistance rating.
Oil canning comes from stress in the coiled steel where the centre can be a sllightly differant length than a side. It can happen as much from an improperly set up roll forming machine as the steel substrate.
