Hi I am tring to find out some information for my parents that are looking to replace there asphalt shingles with a metal roof. Their home is a low pitch single story home. What is your recomondation on the type of roof and the ventalation of attic space for this type of roof. What are some of the things we should ask the contractor or what thing should the contactor be focusing on. I would like to be well informed before we get quotes on the job. Knowledge now save cring later. Thanks

Depends on the pitch and roof configuration. As you drop below a 4/12 pitch in your climate, one needs to beef up the underlayment. Also the roof configuration such as long rafyters, valleys etc in low pitches have to be taken into consideration. First thing top ask is why the existing roof failed. Could be old age, lack of ventilation etc and then ask the contractor what his suggestions are to deal woith the problem. Next ask to see 3 similar jobs and get the owners name and number, then talk to them. Seldom do we see issues when this is followed. Ask if the material recommended has any product approvals as it will dictate the roof slopes and applications.
