Can I install a 26 gauge metal roof over a slate roof, providing I strip the roof with 1 x 4's. And should the slats be nailed or screwed into the roof. Roof is slate over tongue & froove boards.

This is a question to ask the manufacturere and check their product approval to see it they have tested for it. As well you need to comply with the building code and I do not believe they allow a roof over slate. Besides you will probably get enough salvage off them to pasy for the removal.
