I purchased a small seasonal waterfront camp with no heat but a fireplace.
The asphalt shingles are >20 yrs old with moss growing on the north side shingles. The pitch is fairly shallow (approx 1:4)
Two small leaks are evident inside.
I would like to replace with an aluminum roof.
-Is aluminum the best choice?
-Should I have the existing shingles stripped?
-Do you suggest an Ice/Water barrier.
-Is color a significant factor as far as retaining heat in the summer months.
Any hints/suggestions will be appreciated
Thanks

Aluminum is certainly a good choice for corrosion resistance and other benefits.
Many such installations take place over the existing shingles, along with underlayment as specified by the roofing manufacturer.
Ice and watershield isprobably required by code over the entire roof perimeter in your area. You will wnat to use a non-granulated product.
Lighter colors are cooler though some manufacturers now have special pigments in their dark colors which encourage reflectivity with them as well.
