i have a shingled roof now and it is probably 20 years old; it needs to be replaced. i have walked accross my roof and the wood underneath is very firm. i need to find out how to install a metal roof myself. do you have any suggestions to where i might be able to find some directions on how to install a metal roof. i had a friend do his home a couple of years ago and it looks very good and has never leaked.

The first thing you have to do is decide what type and brand of metal roof you want to have on your home. Once you do that, then the manufacturer can help you with advice on how to obtain and install the product. There is a misperception that metal roofing is "generic" -- that is absolutely not the case. From manufacturer to manufacturer, there will be different product designs, different inherent qualities and attributes, and different installation specifications. If you email me at [email protected], I have an article on metal roofing I will be glad to email back to you as it is a good place to start your research. If you encounter a product supplier who wants to sell you product and does not have installation details, please please please run the other way. If they do not care enough about customers and quality product to at least have instructions then in my opinion we do not need them in the industry. Todd Miller
