Power wash it to clean it and then go to a quality paint store and use the primer and top coat they suggest. Allow plenty of dry time between spraying the two coats. Todd Miller

Hi, your reply brought me great hope for the property we just puchased in the Colorado Rockies. Does your answer stay the same if the roof is approximately 20 years old and red/brown in color? The property is located at 7,500 feet. I would like to paint or have the roof painted dark green. Thank you!

Sure. Same process. Could clean with detergent, water and TSP if really dirty. Keep in mind that field-applied finishes will likely chalk and fade faster than original finishes. Todd Miller

Hi The painting of metal roofs is interesting. I live in a snow area in the winter. Will the paint interfear with the snow sliding off? The roof I have has considerable over spray of latex paint from a painting of the buildings exterior walls.

No and the paint overspray will probably come off within a few years.
