We have a standing seam pitch roof on my home and located in the snow belt of Ohio. I am wondering if the roof could collapse if I install butterflies clear around my roof which would be over 1000 sq.ft. Installing the butterflies would hold the snow back on the roof, causing additional weight on roof should snow feeze into ice or would it be better not to install butterflies so the snow will slide off. Also, what shold the torque be for installing butterflies?Appreciate your advise on this. Thank you!

There are numerous types of snow retention devices. The key is in finding the best one for your roofing and for your home. I would suggest contacting the roofing manufacturer for their ideas. You may also email pictures to me if you wish -- [email protected] As far as whether to install them at all -- I personally prefer to encourage the snow to slide but if things are such that it might damage shrubbery, block doors, or hurt people, then something must be done. I hope this helps. Todd Miller
