I am buying a 20year old house with asphalt shingle roof. The roof has many slanted angles and is located on the water. I really want a metal roof because of the asthetic qualities, but I am concerned about whether it makes sense, given the angles and proximity to water. What is your recommendation?

Certainly metal has the advantage on protection from the severe weather issues. Galvalume steel performs up to 6 x betterin a salt water environment that Galvanized. Aluminum has even better resistance and then there is tern coated zinc that is at the top of the list but as you go up there is an increase in costs. Choose a product and check the warranty with the manufacturer on your particular loacation.
