We are trying to decide between metal and shingles. I'm concerned with placing metal over singles. Is stripping advised with 29 guage metal, if so can you walk on it after installtion? What are chances of leaking around the screws?

Take the time to educate yourself. There are many aspects of reroofing governed by the building codes. Ask why your existing roof failed? Probably improper venntilation had something to do with it. Decide what performance aspects you want out of the new roof such as hail, wind, fire resistance and energy savings. Ask to see the Florida Product Approval which means it has been tested and approved for that type of application. The new Florida Building codes have wind maps and uplift requirements such as re fastening the sheathing and/or increasing the sheathings thickness which will generally require removing your existing shingles. Followiung this will then answer your above questions.
