I am dealing with an architectural specification that calls for exposed finishes on the roofing metal to be a manufacturers standard three-coat fluoropolymer system. Is a three-coat system an industry standard? It is my understanding that the industry standard for finishes is a two-coat system.

Two-coat refers to a system with a primer and top coat. Inherent to that would also be pre-treatment on the metal which could perhaps be considered a third coat. There are some print-coats which could be considered three-coat and a few people have put clear coat over a standard two-cost system. All of those things would not be normal though and will be hard to find at best. Todd Miller
