I'm starting home construction in North Georgia, the house will use 10 1/4" Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the entire roof, vaulted ceilings throughout. I'm planing on using standing seam galvalume attached to the OSB panel skin, with standard roofing felt underlayment. The panels are an OSB/foam/OSB sandwich, self-supporting, with no open voids, so no place for ventilation. The SIP community seems to consider this standard practice, even with asphalt shingles, cedar shakes, etc. Any concerns from the metal roof community?

The SIPS community whatever that is still needs to comply with the building code of the area which calls for a vented air space on mimimum of 1". On top of that one can not afford not to comply with this as it adds to long term life of the structure and reduced energy costs. Also make sure the joints get sealed in the SIPS and that you install and iterior air barrier, also required by code.
Choose a syatem that can stand off the deck either with clips or strapping that provides the 1" vertical free air space. Also check the code and see what wind zone you are in, then check the roofing materials product approval as it may have a bearing on the fastener size. Generally for metal roofing connections to OSB they should be a #12 or #14 screw as the OSB has less holding strength than plywood.

can you give me more detail on the clips or strapping? i assume these give the 1" air space plus the vertical air movement. also can i get info on the the vented eave sytem and where all of these products are available. thanks

The majority of the information should come from the roof material manufacturer. I suggest going to one of the metal magazines to look up product suppliers such as Modern Trade, Metal mag and Metal Roofing.
