We live in northern New York. Depending on the pitch of the roof will it be more likely to create an avalanche effect when ice and snow build up fall off a metal roof?

Metal roofing will shed snow faster than most other roofing materials. Generally, that is a good thing because it helps avoid the problems that can be caused by heavy snow loads and ice dams. Most metal roofing manufacturers offer snow guards of some sort for the purpose of breaking up the snow in smaller chunks as it sldies from the roof. Todd Miller

There are many types of snowguards and each have particular types of application. The manufacturer of your roofing should have suggestions or you can email me photos of your roof so that I know what you have. As far as installers, have you used the Find A Contractor section of this website? [email protected] Todd Miller
