I recently bought a house built in 1958 with a tar and gravel roof having a 1 in 12 pitch.
Is it possible to install a standing seam metal roof over the existing roof? If so, what sustrate or additional materials are required? I am looking for information prior to getting quotes. Thanks.

There are mechanical seam metal roofs that can be used on that pitch ... you reallyt should choose a product and then work with the manufacturers to figure out the details of what is appropriate for your roof. You probably can remove the tar and gravel and then put down a recovery board followed by underlayment and the new roof. However, there may be some ventilation issues to address as well.
