So what about "hot roof" or unvented construction under standing seam? We feel we do a quality job of sealing bypasses, insulation, and vapor barrier on cathedrals. We have a r60 glass batt fill in wood trusses, ply sheathing, and Tamko tile and metal underlayment. Why should we have to put up with wind driven moisture from ridge vents?

I think that the "hot roof" theory is fine if you can have the attic completely sealed. As you know, though, that's not an easy thing to do in new construction and it is all but impossible in retrofit. Good luck with it. If you can do it, that is a good way to go.
