Hi i need some help. Can a standing seam metal roof .026 gauge be installed on a 1/12 to 2/12 pitch roof? I have had so many different opinions on this. We don't want to put the wrong roof on our home. Will water back up and leak on this pitch if we use metal? We live in montana. Our other option is tpo with 4in of insualtion. If we can put metal how much insulation board can we add under the metal someone told us 2inches is the max?

The best advise is to choose a product and then contact the manufacturer. Next is to look up the product to see if it has been approved and carries an ICC Evaluation Report which will indicate that it has been tested and reviewed and will indicate the limitations on slope. Please be aware that having a low slope is only a small piece of the info. Having one with a 12 ft rafter is significantly differant than having one with a 60 ft rafter. Also having valleys in a low slope and other roof configurations have an effect on snow shadowing. Now having said you live in Montana, you are dealing with snow and ice. I would ask why your existing roof failed and then try to correct the problems. I suspect that you have a vaulted ceiling at that slope and the building code requires it to be ventilated. I would definitely deal with this now as it would help elliminate ice daming. I would vertical strap with 1 1/2" lumber over the rafters, then ice and water shield the complete roof over the strapping and then counter strap to accept the new roofing. Use a vented closere strip at the eave and under the ridge cap to ventilate.
