Is there a code for the length on the drip edge overhang. I know that a typical metal roof should have 2" or so of overhang at the plain of the eave, but i was not sure about a standing seam.

I am not aware of any building code that regulates this.
It is best to adhere to the instructions given by the roofing manufacturer. They should be showing how to comply with the testing and product evaluation work they have done.
That said, many of the better standing seams will lock the bottom edges of the panels over the starter and have minimal overhang -- maybe an inch.
