I would like to know how to determine how much tin is needed for a metal gable (pitched) roof 22' X 30'. The builder keeps changing the amount he needs and I am worried about his calculations. First he said 291" then changed it to 231" and told the store that he would confirm tomorrow. The tin is 30" large. I'm worried about paying for tin not needed or not getting enough and have to patch.
Thank you in advance for the taking the time to respond.

Hi Brenda,
I would need to know whether 22" is the width or legth of the roof. Is there a ridge? Any valleys? What is the overlap between the type of panels being installed?

Hi Mr. Miller,
Thank you for responding so quickly. I'm sorry, but I don't have the information requested about valleys, ridges or overlap. The 22'is the length (the peak). The house is 24 X 26 and the roof will have an overhang of 8' to cover the deck so the width of roof is 24 + 8 = 30'.

I am still not clear on everything, Brenda, but I would say that 291" of total metal length would be much closer than 231" and, in fact, may still be on the low side.

Hi Mr. Miller,
I saw the builder yesterday and the roof seems to be coming along well. The tin has been ordered at 231 inches. The roof measures 20 X 34 and the tin comes in pieces of 30 inches X 22 feet long so 231 inches of tin would be 28 strips. According to the builder this is what is needed. I'll keep my fingers crossed. The tin is arriving Monday Aug. 29 and they will complete the work next week.
Thank you.

Good luck. I hope all goes well.
Make sure that you know who is manufacturing the metal roofing and what your warranty is on it. Make sure you know what workmanship warranty the installer is giving you as well. Keep in mind that workmanship and materials are warranted separately.
