I just set trusses on a cabin in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I plan on installing the OSB sheeting in a few weeks and applying some type of underlayment. After that, I'm still undecided between a Standing Seam or a Raised Rib steel roof. My pitch is 10/12. I can't decide if I want to take the risk of applying a steel roof that leaves the screws exposed or go with a Standing Seam type that leaves all attachment features Un-exposed. I'm being told that the expansion and contraction of the steel will lead to the screw holes getting "hogged" out over time. I see residential homes all over that have steel roofs that have exposed screws. Any suggestions?

Both products can be durable. A lot of other things factor in including paint finish, engineered design, and proper installation.
However, like in most things, you get what you pay for in metal roofing.
All other factors being equal, a product which has allowance for expansion and contraction, as well as concealed fasteners, should be more durable than a through-fastened product.
