I want to replace my asphalt shingles with a metal roof. I am hesitant due to the overheating problems which I had to correct from the builder. How would the metal roof work with venting devices. I currently have 2 six foot and 1 four foot vent for a hip roof. I do not want to repeat the same problem. Second where is literature available for do it yourself to install a metal roof.

Florida has a new building code and it requires a number of things. First it will indicate how much ventilation must be required Basically you need to provide 1 sf for every 300 sf of ceiling area and it needs to half at athe eaves and half at the ridge. The system must also carry a product approval for the state of FL.
Choose a roof system that is energy star which will reflect the suns rays out, generally a light colour. Approved FL systems have proper ventilation details.
Choose a product and contact the manufacturer and get a copy of their approval and they should supply you with instalation instructions . If they can't choose one that complies.

Our Florida Townhome complex is installing steel roofing tiles and we currently have ridge vents and soffit vents on each roof unit. Our installing contractor is telling us that we do not need a ridge vent system with this stone coated steel roof. Is this correct? Seems that with the soffit vents allowing for moist air to enter the attic space, this same heated air has no way to exit the attic space? Do we need to be concerned with the growth of mold and mildew in our attic space and our living space?
Please advise ASAP! Thanks!
