We had a new boathouse bilt with a metal roof pan with a very small slope. It is covered by a sun deck. Looking between the boards of the deck, I can see standing water in some places after it rains. Will this decrease the lifespan of the aluminum?

If the base metal is aluminum, this may not have a huge effect on lifespan. However, ultimately, sure standing water for long periods of time will accelerate the aging of paint finishes and metal.

There are some metal roofs, such as those commonly used on industrial buildings, which can function well down to a slope of 1/4" in 12". Every metal roof system will have a minimum required pitch. Many residential products are 3:12 minimum.
