How can metal roofing be applied to a gambrel type roof? My main interest is how is the outside angle transition handled? Secondly, if the top section overlaps the lower section at the bend in the roof (outside edge angle), how is that going to look. Are there flashings available? Is the metal roof material bent? I need an opinion on how gambrel roofs can use metal roofing, roughly how the change in the roof angle is approached, and finally what can I expect it to look like.

There should indeed be a pitch change flashing and, depending upon what type of metal roof you are installing, perhaps a starter strip to start out the higher roof with as well.
The pitch flashing comes out over the lower roof and goes up under the upper roof.
Quality manufacturers of metal roofing will supply details on how to do this, as well as flashings. If you are contemplating working with a product where this information and these flashings are not available, please, please find a different product and manufacturer.
