Shingle vs. Panel style

Hello - I want to re-roof with metal and would like your opinion on what style of metal roof would be best suited for my chalet style home - shingle or panel? It has a skylight (which I believe is curb-mounted) on a shallow slope section and a valley on the north side where snow collects (I'm in Maine) and causes a leak. The roof profile is basically 2 somewhat shallow sloped wings (one roof half faces east and the other west) attached to a steep sloped center section (one roof half faces north and the other south). My main concern is a roof that has the least possible opportunity for leaks. Regards form Maine - Mark Lane

Mark, most of the shingle style products require at least a 3:12 pitch. If your roof does not have that amount of pitch, then you will need to investigate vertical seam products which are suitable for lower pitches. As far as leak resistance -- any of these systems, if used at or above their minimum pitch, will perform well if installed properly. It is very critical to find a good, experienced installer.
