I've read thru your forum on Metal Roofs but can't seem to find one definitive answer to my question..so I'm still confused! We've added a second story to our Northeast Vermont home. Our contractor has placed 1"x3" wooden strapping on the roof trusses. He intends to screw the metal sheets/panels directly to the strapping. Insulation for heat loss would be placed in the upper level ceilings. Considering our norther climate, is this sufficient? I always thought any roofing material needed to be applied to a solid surface. Thanks so much for your response.

There are products designed for installation only over solid decking and there are products which can also be installed over battens. The key is to confirm with the manufacturer that the product you choose is being installed in the right way.
Additionally, if it is a product which can be installed over battens, check and see what the manufacturer says as to whether it is appropriate to do that on a residential application.
