Hello. We have an old barn on our property and it has a vertical metal roof. The roof has become quite rusted and is even rusted through in spots on the very ends of the panels. We have seen some other barns in our area get painted with a silver, metallic paint and would like to do the same with ours so we can prevent any further deterioration. We would also like to do the work ourselves, but would like any assistance determining 3 things: how can we figure out what kind of metal the roof is made of, do we need to remove the rust before painting it (we'd rather not since the roof is quite steep), and what products are out there for us to use to paint, or treat, the metal?
