The Great Energy Tax Incentive Act of 2005

Hello, Consumers,

If you have been holding out for the exact right time to purchase a new metal roof for your home, you should be aware of a new benefit from the US Government, The Energy Tax Incentive Act of 2005, going into effect this coming January, 2006.

According to this new federal law, homeowners may qualify for a credit of up to $500 at 10 percent of the cost of qualified energy-efficiency improvements to their homes, including the purchase of new pigmented metal roofs by the Metal Roofing Alliance's member manufacturers and contractors.

Why is the government rewarding consumers of metal roofs? Pigmented metal roofs have been acknowledged as a cornerstone of green building. Beyond the installation of energy efficient insulation, doors and windows, the installation of a quality, light-reflecting pigmented metal roof can significantly secure the "building envelope" of your home, the layer of the building that separates your living space from the outdoor environment.

By reflecting sunlight in the summer and insulating all year round, a metal roof keeps unwanted heat out while retaining interior heating or air conditioning when you need it, greatly reducing energy consumption in your home and dependence on energy resources in your community. An abundance in metal roofs in a given community has even been reported to cut unusually high urban summer temperatures (also known as the "heat island effect") in entire neighborhoods by reflecting heat regularly absorbed by a sea of asphalt roofs.
