Re-Roofing With Metal Is Better For The Environment
Dear Friend,
Did you know a metal roof is good for the environment?
Let me show you what I mean...
Let's say you took the torn-off asphalt shingles from every single re-roofing job done in 2003. And then you loaded those shingles into trailers. All those trailers would make a line from New York to Los Angeles, back to New York, ending up in Chicago.
My point is, that's an enormous amount of extra waste in our landfills. 7 to 10 million tons of shingle waste is dumped in landfills across the country each year, according to the National Association of Homebuilders Research Center. Another 750,000 to 1 million tons of shingle waste, from manufacturing, also end up in your landfills.
But when you re-roof with metal, there's a good chance you won't need to tear your old roof off at all. Many times, a new metal roof can be installed directly over a shingle roof.
This can save you thousands of dollars on installation. In itself, metal roofing doesn't waste any resources... many styles are made with up to 50% recycled metal.
The metal roofing contractor you choose can tell you if your shingle roof can stay on under your new one.
When you get an estimate from one of the Metal Roofing Alliance's Member Contractors, they'll tell you if installation over your current roof is possible, once they see your roof in person.
Sincerely,
Tom Black
